New Church Service starting in January 2024 – St Martin’s Heaton

Please excuse the mid week notice.  Just so it doesn’t get lost in the Christmas notices – we wanted to let you know that we are starting Bubble Church in January at St Martin’s Heaton.  This is a new style of service aimed at young children and their families.  Please pray for this new venture and let us know if you feel you can volunteer to help with it.  All the details are on our Bubble Church page.

Sunday 10th December 2023 – Second Sunday in Advent – Breakfast Church

This Sunday is the second Sunday of Advent – we will have Breakfast Church at St Paul’s Manningham at 10.30am

Our Scripture reading will be from Mark 1:1-8

To see the live stream of the service click here. We don’t usually livestream Breakfast Church – but we’re going to try a no frills version this Sunday – starting about 11am.  After we’ve had our Breakfast we’ll go live.  This is really an opportunity for those who haven’t been before to see how it is an unthreatening introduction to church.

Notices

Bonfire and Carols – tomorrow night!

Saturday 9th of December at 5pm we will be having a bonfire again at St Barnabas Village Hall

We could really do with a lot of help to prepare this event and serving on the night.  You can help by sharing the event on Facebook.

We’ll be using an online carol sheet – you practice now and sing from your phone at the event.

Christmas Services and Activities

Here are our services and what we’re up to around the Parish

Gift Aid forms

If you’re a UK taxpayer we can claim 25% back on all your giving to the church.  But we need a form from you.  We’re renewing all of these in 2024 – so if you pay tax and you give to the church could you please fill this form in?

United Service for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

Will be at Bradford Cathedral at 6pm on Sunday 21st January.
The theme for this service is: “Be-Longing:  Praying for Unity amidst Injustice” and is an attempt to explore how Christian Unity might contribute to the promotion of justice across all levels of society, particularly this year, the 30th anniversary of the murder of Stephen Lawrence, concentrating on racial justice.

(To get notices on this page please email notices@bradfordwest.church – we can’t promise to put all on – but will do our best!)

Sunday 24th November 2023 – Christ the King – Baptisms

This week we are baptising new members of the Church at 10:30am at St Paul’s Church .  We will be having a Bring and Share lunch afterwards.  So please bring lunch with you with a bit more to share with others!  Also we usually bring a flask of boiling water if possible as our contribution to the water of baptism.  This gives us all a sense of involvement – and it also makes it warmer for the candidates! (Click here to remind yourself what we do with our flasks!)

Also – to refresh your memory – here is a video and photos from last year.

Our Scripture reading will be from Matthew 25.31-46

To see the live stream of the service click here. We usually start streaming at 10.25

Operations Manager

As a Parish we have funding for 3 new posts.  2 Part Time Mission Apprentices and 1 Operations Manager.  We still haven’t appointed these key roles.  Currently your clergy are dealing with the administration and the management of the buildings etc, but we could pay someone else to do that.  Can you pray and fast with us for this?  We are choosing Wednesdays.  Fast in any way you want to that will remind you to pray.  TV, food, coffee – it is up to you.  We are praying that these posts will be filled by the end of the year!

Worship and Prayer Night – 26 November 6pm – Life Church

To start Advent together in Unity there will be a worship and praise event at Life Church – 6pm on 26 November at 6pm.

Mother Goose Pantomime

This well loved local production is back again this year. Held at First Martyrs Church Hall, Heights Lane, BD9 6HZ

Wednesday 29th November – Thursday 30th November – Friday 1st December – 7.30pm

Bar / Refreshments

Remembrance Service in Heaton Graveyard

It was good to pause with members of Heaton Community and 60 children from Heaton St Barnabas to remember those from the area who lost their lives in the 2 World Wars.  Peace must be treasured more than ever!  Photos available here.

Churches Together Advent Service – Thursday 7th December 2023 – 7pm

The Girlington, Heaton & Manningham Council of Churches (GHMCC) are holding their Advent Service at First Martyrs’ Church, Heights Lane, Heaton, BD9 6HZ.

Giving

There are many in our parish who regularly give to the church through a Direct Debit to our bank account. If you do – firstly thank you so much for your generosity! It would be a great help though if you transferred across to using the Parish Giving Scheme. As charity rules, tax claims etc become more complicated it is increasingly becoming a big task to claim back the 20% we can get on top of your gift. Joining the Parish Giving Scheme makes it all so much easier for us – and easier for you too! Please speak to Zarine if you want to know more about it – or click the links!
