NOTIFICATION OF APPOINTMENT – Rev Ben Care

The Revd Ben Care, currently Assistant Curate at Burton St Chad & Stretton with Claymills in the Lichfield Diocese is to become Associate Vicar of Girlington, Heaton & Manningham in the Bradford Episcopal
Area.   Ben will be licensed on 23rd  November 2021 at 7pm at St Paul’s Church, Manningham by Bishop Toby Howarth.

Ben introduces himself below….

I am delighted to have been appointed as the new Associate Minister for the parish of Girlington, Manningham and Heaton.

A little about me: I became a Christian aged 20 whilst at Warwick university and it transformed my life. Helen and I met and married on a Christian year out course in 2001 and have been trying to follow where Jesus leads ever since. Along the way I have worked and volunteered for mission organisations and I have long had a heart to see people of different faiths and backgrounds come to know Christ. Eventually the twists and turns of this journey led to being ordained in 2017 and serving my curacy in two churches in Burton upon Trent, in the Midlands. The things that I am passionate about are seeing God’s church become more fully what it can be; for us to be growing as disciples, living out His call on our lives wherever that finds us and being a people committed to His word and grappling with it. My hope is that as we grow and change more into His likeness this will spill over into the lives of those around us.

I will be coming with my family; my wife, Helen, and our daughters Anna (aged 11) and Lyla (aged 6). We love spending time outdoors, walking and exploring the countryside and nature so we’re really looking forward to getting to know the area. I am a board game geek, bookworm and coffee connoisseur.

I am excited to be joining you as we seek to serve Christ in this parish together.

Sunday 19th September – Parish Forum – St Martin’s Hall

It’s a bit different this week.  We have no service at St Philip’s Church.  We will instead meet to talk and to pray and then share Communion together at St Martin’s Church – Haworth Road.

We will still meet to pray at 10am – please pray together with us at 10 from your homes even if you can’t attend.  It is an important day!  Sorry but we won’t be having this on zoom – there will be a lot to setup and the technology isn’t ready at that location.  Neither will we be livestreaming – it is not really a service. Many apologies for the inconvenience.

The Forum will begin at 11am.  We will think about the future, talk, pray and celebrate together at the Lord’s table.  At 1pm we will share a very simple lunch of soup and a roll.

Please try your best to be at this important event.

Next Sunday 19th September 2021 – We plan to have a Parish Forum to talk about the future of our Parish and how we will move forward out of the pandemic.

We will meet at 11am in St Martin’s Church Hall.  We will have a ’round tables’ time of discussion as well as a short communion service.  Afterwards we will provide a soup and roll lunch.

I have written down some thoughts of what we need to talk about as well as what will be unhelpful to talk about.  Please read it before the meeting.  You can download it here: Letter to the Parish – Gathered Worship 2021

As we move out of lockdown we are also planning to spend the whole month of October unapologetically focusing on children and families in our Parish Worship on Sunday mornings.  We must disciple and nurture young people however great the cost if we are to continue our mission to share the gospel in this city.

Sunday 5th September 2021 – CREATION – Caring for our planet

This Sunday we have a little break in our Heroes series.  We have been meaning to focus on our Environment and the world around us for some time.  We have just entered the season of ‘Creationtide’ we don’t want to just glory in the gift of creation.  We want to challenge ourselves and others about our behaviour and our attitude in this area.

You can zoom into this prayer meeting – even if you can’t be with us in person.  Both the livestream and zoom link are here:  https://linktr.ee/ParishofGHM

We’re still at the usual link:  https://linktr.ee/ParishofGHM

We will be singing – but no other changes will be made to our Risk Assessment for Coronavirus.  Please remember that wearing a mask hardly protects you from infection.  But if you’re infectious it really helps you not to be spreading it to other.  So wearing a mask really is a visible sign that you ‘Love your Neighbour’.  See below for a very clear graphic that we’ll be trying to stick to at least for the coming weeks.
