Sunday 13th June 2021 – Generous Hospitality: In the Household

mary Martha

This Sunday at our Parish Communion Service we will continue our series on Generous Hospitality: This week is entitled “In the Household” – looking at the story of Mary and Martha. Luke 10: 38-42.

We meet at 11am in St Philip’s Church. It’s the usual link to join us online.

Prayer beforehand is at 10am back in the church but also on zoom at the usual link.

Notices

On 20th June 2021 we will be having a Baptism service at 11am.  This will be held at St Paul’s Church, Manningham – it is complicated and not advisable to have such a change of venue but there are many good reasons for it.  This service will be outside – so not livestreamed.  We will be able to SING! We will be recording much of the event and a video summary will be available YouTube, hopefully before the end of Sunday.

We will also be saying a very fond farewell to the Rev Sue Jennings as it will be her last Sunday – we will still be under restrictions of course but we have far more scope to be ‘normal’ outside so please come and celebrate Sue’s ministry with us.

Our first parish wedding in a long while is taking place tomorrow – Sat 12 June – in St Barnabas Church.  Please pray for Hollie and Oliver and their family as they get married after many postponements.

APCM 2021 Videos

Thanks to the many of you who attended our APCM on 30th May 2021.  It came around quickly this time since our last one was in November 2020.

Here is a page giving a summary of what happened at the APCM and 2 videos that you may have missed.

PS Apologies for all the emails you may have got on Friday.  The system kept saying they failed to upload – but they clearly did upload…. 21 times for the lucky ones!

Annual Meeting of Parishioners + APCM = Communion – 30th May 2021

This Sunday is a little different: we meet as usual to pray at 10am on Zoom.  Then at 11am we begin our 2 Annual Meetings that look back at 2020 and forward to the rest of 2021 and onto 2022.

The APCM will be on Zoom and live.  Please bear with us as we hold a hybrid event of this size for the first time.  If you come on Zoom you will be able to see and hear everything and we hope contribute audibly.  If Audio has technical problems you will certainly be able to ask your questions in the chat function.  It would be much better though if you come in person – please do!  There is room.

We will finish our meetings with a short Communion Service. This will not be on Zoom but on Youtube as usual – we can’t tell you the time but you’ll get a notification if you’ve subscribed to our channel.   If you aren’t subscribed and you’d like to be click here.

So in short the usual link will provide at 10am a prayer meeting, at 11am an APCM and then when that is over you can click it again to join the Youtube service as usual: https://linktr.ee/ParishofGHM

Notices

Before the APCM remember that the Agenda and our annual report for 2020 and the minutes of our last APCM are available for you to read and digest before the meeting.  We will print a number of copies of the report to be available at church.  Please come to this important meeting in person if you possibly can.  We promise it will be quick!  Sunday lunch can be delayed just this once……..

Pentecost Sunday – 23 May 2021

This Sunday we meet to celebrate and remember the gift of the Holy Spirit

Acts 1.8 says “…you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”  Our church in Bradford is the direct result of that power released so powerfully in Jerusalem and still accessible to us today if we ask!  We will look at the famous story when the church began in Acts 2: 1-21

We meet at 11am in St Philip’s Church – Prayer beforehand at 10am is still on zoom – but it is hybrid these days, so you can pray in church if you wish or if you don’t like zoom!

Notices

Next Sunday 30th May is our APCM.  We will begin at 11am and after our business we will end with an act of communion.  We have plenty of space at St Philip’s and we have less severe restrictions these days so we can squash in a bit if needed.

We will be live on the usual link but on Zoom – not on Youtube.  We expect to have the final communion on our Youtube channel – but we don’t know when that will be, sorry.

Our annual report for 2020 and the minutes of our last APCM are available for you to read and digest before the meeting.  Mistakes etc can be corrected before if you contact us.  We will print a number of copies of the report to be available after our church services this week for those who prefer to read it that way.

Thy Kingdom Come – Starting 13th May 2021

In Church yesterday we were reminded that Thy Kingdom Come will begin on Thursday – a 10 day global prayer movement.

Roland mentioned Novena – a way to pray over nine days – you can read more about that on the Thy Kingdom Come resources page as well as download the Prayer Journal

You can also find many Church of England Resources – including Apps for your phone

We are encouraging everyone to Pray for 5

HOW TO PRAY FOR YOUR 5 DURING THY KINGDOM COME

Thy Kingdom Come encourages every Christian to pray for 5 individuals so that they would know
God’s love for them in Christ.

ASCENSION DAY – Jesus

Pray for your 5 friends to encounter Jesus in all his grace, challenge and love, that they might say
with St Paul, ‘For me, to live is Christ’.

FRIDAY AFTER ASCENSION – Praise

Pray for your 5 to be woken up to all that they have already
received from God in their lives, and all that he offers them in Christ, that they might praise him.

SATURDAY AFTER ASCENSION – Thanks

Pray for your 5 to recognise the goodness of God in their lives, that they would turn to God in
gratitude and trust.

SUNDAY AFTER ASCENSION – Sorry

Pray for your 5 to be led by the Holy Spirit to understand the
cost of God’s love for them in Christ, that this great sacrifice would lead them to repentance.

MONDAY – Offer

Pray for the Holy Spirit to bring an understanding of life in all its fullness that will be theirs as your
5 put everything they have at the disposal of God.

TUESDAY – Pray for

Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in the lives of your 5 now, as you pray for specific things that you
know they face.

WEDNESDAY – Help

Pray for your 5 that they would know that they never have to face anything alone, but that in their
need they would call on God for help.

THURSDAY – Adore

For the eyes of your 5 to be opened to all that Jesus offers them and that they would turn their
faces to him and enjoy the warmth of his love.

FRIDAY – Celebrate

Pray for yourself and those others the Lord sends to help show your 5 their route home to God,
that they would know the loving father running to greet them.

SATURDAY – Silence

Pray for the Holy Spirit to put on your heart the desires of heaven for your 5.

THE DAY OF PENTECOST – Thy Kingdom Come

Pray ‘Come Holy Spirit’ for your 5 friends, that they may joyfully enter the Kingdom of God and find themselves used by God to
pray and act ‘Thy Kingdom Come’.

Sunday 2nd May 2021 – The Best – Not the Scraps – GIFT DAY

On Sunday we conclude our Stewardship Series.  We have been looking at our Time our Treasure and our Talent and challenging each other on what we can give to God in a new way.

Our Topic this week is The Best, Not the Scraps, we will read Luke 16: 19-31, the story of the Rich man and Lazarus.

As usual we will be having prayer time on zoom at 10am – hope you can join us. https://linktr.ee/ParishofGHM

There will be an opportunity to offer our Time our Treasure and our Talent in the service.  We are also encouraging those who would like to give a little extra to do it on Sunday – all together.  We will have TWO collections – the normal one and a Gift Day one – so be ready!  For those who prefer to give online have a look at this analysis of our current situation.  There is an online version available too – it is called “All things come from you – and of your own do we give you.”

Last week we did the sums during church and we came to the conclusion that with our current membership it costs £3 each daily to keep our Parish going!  You can give directly online with our Gift Day page

You can give Gift Aid on this page too – which will allow us to claim 20% more on your gift.  This is the Heaton Hub account which is setup for online giving.  But it all goes to the same place!

(On that note – we now have a joint bank account so the best way to write a cheque is to Parish of Girlington, Heaton and Manningham)
