Heaton Hub

Heaton Hub was birthed in 2018, following consultation meetings with the community and the launch of the Community Library. Since that date it has been staffed every week by loyal community volunteers.

The Hub has always worked in cooperation with other local organisations who use the space (such as Brownies, Slimming World, Dance groups), but it has also been developing its own community initiatives to run alongside the library opening times, such as the community cafe, food pantry and toddler group. We are excited to see how it is growing and serving the area.

Heaton Hub operates out of St Martin’s Church in the Haworth Road area of Bradford.  We have many community events going on.

OUR WEEKLY SERVICES

Community cafe & pantry (Thursdays 10.30am-1pm)

Our Community Pantry opened in September 2021 and has since been a great practical support for our community. For just a few pounds shoppers choose a range of fresh and grocery items. Our warm cafe is a relaxing space to meet others, have some toast and a hot drink. Crafts are available as well as table top games and good conversation!

Stay & Play (Mondays 10am-1pm)

‘Stay and Play’ launched in September 2024. It is the only place in the local area where parents and carers of under 5s can walk from home and come together for support. It is now combined with the library’s weekly ‘Story and Rhyme Time’and many families have signed up as library members and are enjoying seeing their children develop in their speech and language.

It provides a weekly under 5s story and song time, regular craft and activity days, the ‘Summer Reading Challenge’ scheme, school visits, access to laptops and WiFi and signposting to other organisations. It stayed open throughout the Covid Pandemic by offering ready made book bags (see photo). It also provides a great opportunity for those looking to get into work or further education to increase skills, experience and confidence.

COMMUNITY INITIATIVES

The launch of our ‘Restore’ recipe book in 2023 provided a great opportunity for our community to come together over their favourite dishes. It was wondering to see many people bringing and sharing not just food together, but also culture and life experiences.
