A Time to Mourn – HM Queen Elizabeth II

Good Morning

We are going to open our churches between 3-4pm today Friday 9th Sept 2022 when school children are heading home – hoping to allow them to be spaces of remembrance and mourning for our whole community.  Hopefully members of our Church community will be able to be there for this historic occasion despite being so quickly organised.
There will be an opportunity to sit quietly – to think and to remember a live so very well lived.

Sunday 14th August 2022 – Breakfast Church – I am the good Shepherd

It’s Breakfast Church on Sunday! Please join us for food, fellowship and worship.  Please remember that we don’t livestream this service.

We are following a different series at Breakfast Church looking at the “I am…” sayings of Jesus.  This week it is “I am the Good Shepherd”

Remembering the verse in the book of John chapter 10 verses 1-16

This service is particularly geared towards those who don’t really get church or why we gather – if you have people in your life that don’t really understand why you go to church – why not bring them along?

Prayer and Praise

In the evening at 7pm we have our Prayer and Praise service at St Philip’s Church.  If you haven’t been to this service why not come along?  We sing, we pray, we spend some time quietly in God’s presence.  It would be good to see you there!

Sunday 31st July 2022 – Juicy – “Can service be worship?”

On Sunday our service is again a Juicy service – where we’re a bit experimental, trying new things and being a little ‘different’.  We still are in our series “Heart of worship, more than a song:” – this time asking the question – “Can service be worship?”

So we’ll be looking in quite a lot of detail at why we call our church meetings a ‘service’ – by literally doing some service – in the service.  Hope that makes sense.

We will be live streaming – but it might not all be clear from afar. Certainly the opening song and communion will be ‘normal’! (via this link – https://linktr.ee/ParishofGHM)

Sunday 24th July 2022 – All Age Service – How do we worship in tough times?

This Sunday is an All Age Service.  We are asking the question “How do we worship in tough times?”. This question is one being asked far more often these days – would you know how to answer?

It is important for our young people to worship along side us – remember they will be watching you, as you keep an eye on them!

Our Reading will be Psalm 42 – Live stream for our service will be available via this link – https://linktr.ee/ParishofGHM

New Wine – Next week some of the leaders will be away at New Wine Christian Camp. We hoped this would be more of a wider church event – but this booking was made in Autumn 2019 – and each summer it has been postponed!  Please pray for a time of good refreshment and spiritual input.  5 or 6 other churches in Bradford are also attending.  As well our Area Dean and the new Dean of the Cathedral.

Last time we went to New Wine!

Former Vicar of St Philip’s – Rev Anthony Greenhill

We are writing with great sadness to share that Rev Anthony David Greenhill, ‘Ant’, died on 5th July 2022, aged 83 years old.

We will be celebrating Anthony’s life with a service at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Bamfurlong, Wigan on Thursday 21st July at 2pm.

There will be time to gather over tea, coffee, cake and sandwiches and share our memories of him in the adjacent church hall immediately after the service. There will be a brief committal for immediate family at the crematorium.

Anthony was a warm, kind, playful and patient father and husband and his memory will be treasured by his wife of 49 years, Pat, children, Beth and David, and his three grandchildren Lucas (5), Eva (3) and Jamie (7 months). Anthony also leaves behind him his two younger brothers, Richard and Chris, and his nieces and nephews, all of whom he was extremely fond. He will finally be reunited with his beloved sister, Sue, and has asked for his ashes to be scattered alongside hers on the Quantock hills in Somerset.

We are asking that any donations in lieu of flowers are made to Greatwood Christian Camp which was hugely important to Dad and which he attended from 1957 – 2021 https://greatwood.org.uk/support-us/donate/

All welcome. Please wear brightly coloured clothes to celebrate Anthony’s life.

Ann Ashe has made an amazing banner as a gift to the Episcopal Church of Sudan from the Diocese of Leeds. It will be presented to Archbishop Ezekiel, when he comes to the Lambeth Conference in July.  We hope it will be displayed in All Saints’ Cathedral in Khartoum.
